The company started trading in April 2004. Set up as an Energy Markets Consultancy, specialising in the UK utility sector, covering gas, electricity, emissions and coal, the focus turned to the natural gas markets of North West Europe and their supply/demand including Long Term Contracts and spot markets; the importance of LNG in the gas supply mix; the emergence of renewables in the generation mix; and commodity forwards and futures markets. The scope has since widened to encompass all of Europe, Russia, Turkey, the Caspian region, and the emerging markets in Asia.PHCL concentrates on trading, risk-management and portfolio optimisation issues but also on providing marketing and business advice, writing reports on industry matters, running bespoke workshops and giving presentations on the utility/traded markets and related topics.Patrick Heather, its Managing Director, has 40 years’ experience in traded commodity markets, especially energy products and in particular, since 1996, the UK gas and power sector. He has practical knowledge and experience in trading, managing trading operations, setting up trading desks, contract negotiation and Client representation. He has also acted as an Expert in gas contract litigation and other energy trading related cases.PHCL provides advice on these areas as well as various aspects of OTC and futures trading and can help with the setting up of trading accounts, including introductions to Clearing Brokers.The consultancy also has the ability to call upon associated consultants who are experts in the oil markets, the power industry, the emissions market and the London financial markets.
