While over one in five of UK working-age adults have a criminal record, the UK is being held back by unparalleled workforce shortages. Businesses are struggling to recruit and retain the right employees, meanwhile hundreds of thousands of people with criminal records are struggling to find jobs. This makes no sense.I represent SME business as a strategic advisor to the Fair Chance Business Alliance, and I know that recruiting and retaining the right people for the right jobs, including those with criminal records, makes commercial sense. The Fair Chance Business Alliance is not just a force for good initiative, this overlooked and under optimised talent pool can help employers of all sizes, equipped with the right advice and tools, solve an increasingly urgent problem, and even create a point of difference for a business.Several large businesses are in the vanguard, leading the charge, exploding myths as misconceptions fade around fair chance employment, but this is not just for the big boys.Importantly, the Fair Chance Business Alliance was created by employers for employers and is deploying resources to vastly increase employment for people with criminal records. The key is that we are employer-led, enabling employers of all sizes to attract candidates who with the right support, can become engaged, effective, loyal employees and contribute to workplace diversity, to business success, and to the UK economy.

ABOUT PATRICK BURGE

My background is building and scaling businesses online and offline across multiple sectors including both new and established companies. My non exec and advisory work includes being a member of the Advisory Board for The Fair Chance Business Alliance. Great businesses and great brands don’t grow by themselves, they need experts from outside, always with humility and having some fun along the way also helps. My speciality is franchising. If your business is successful and you are wondering how you might grow it, it may be franchisable. Franchising can be a great way to build long term sector outstripping valuations for an SME. Whether franchising is the right route for your business is something I have explored with numerous founders and CEO’s. Lime Licensing has been around a long time, and we have experience in the following sectors, so I’m especially keen to connect with leaders in:Domiciliary Care • Healthcare • Health & Wellness • Fitness and Gyms • Home & Garden Repairs and Maintenance • Cleaning • Estate Agency and Lettings • Kitchen & Home Improvements • Professional Services • Retail • Food & Beverage • Hospitality • QSR and Fast Food • Bakeries • Cafés and Coffee Shops • Mobile Catering and Food Trucks • Mobile Van Businesses • After-School Clubs and Children’s Activities • Sport. What I do in practise, not theory, is based on a Blueprint that has seen many of our clients grow through franchising:• Franchise feasibility and unit economics; does it work for franchisees and you as the franchisor?• Packaging your “how we do it” into a scalable operating model• Franchise proposition, recruitment strategy, and launch plan• Funding, property/location support where relevant, and growth roadmaps• Ongoing franchisor support: systems, standards, performance, and risk reduction• Working with your management team, external providers, and potential franchisees• Representing you to the outside world as your franchise consultantIf you’re exploring franchising, or think you would like to know more, and want an honest view on whether it’s the right route I would be happy to discuss things confidentially without any commitment on your part.
