Equal Right is a non-profit organisation working to advance human rights, equity and climate justice through a Universal Basic Income. We believe UBI can provide the rights-based foundation needed to protect the planet, and through research, advocacy and implementation, we are demonstrating the role that unconditional cash can play in achieving a wide range of eco-social outcomes. At Equal Right, I\'m responsible for shaping our strategic direction, overseeing our campaigns, leading the day-to-day operations of the organisation, and managing our small global team.We want to build our networks with progressive organisations and governments worldwide who share our vision for global economic and climate justice - if you\'d like to find out more about our work please get in touch!

ABOUT PATRICK BROWN

I work at the intersection of climate justice, economic equity, and Universal Basic Income - making the case that putting money directly in people\'s hands is one of the most powerful tools we have for addressing both poverty and the climate crisis.I\'m a Churchill Fellow, TEDx speaker, organiser and policy entrepreneur with a PhD in Politics. I\'ve spent the last decade building the evidence base and political coalitions needed to make UBI a reality - in Northern Ireland, across the Global South, and at the international policy level. As Executive Director of Equal Right, I lead a small global team advocating for UBI globally, with active cash transfer projects in Kenya, Colombia, Tuvalu, and Brazil. Our work spans research, advocacy, and implementation - from community-led conservation finance with Il Ngwesi Conservancy in Laikipia to unconditional cash pilots in post-conflict Colombia. I regularly represent Equal Right in international climate finance spaces such as COP and Bonn intersessionals, and work directly with government leaders and climate negotiators. Before Equal Right, I served as an Alliance Party MLA for South Down in the Northern Irish Assembly, where I founded the All-Party Working Group on UBI and was the party\'s spokesperson on Anti-Poverty, Infrastructure and Animal Welfare. I was also a Councillor for 8 years and led the party\'s best ever Assembly election campaign in 2022 as Campaigns and Development Officer. My Churchill Fellowship took me to Brazil and Colombia to research local currency basic income programmes and the role of cash transfers in peacebuilding - findings I\'ve used to inform UBI feasibility work in Northern Ireland and beyond. I\'m currently a Visiting Scholar at Queen\'s University Belfast with the Centre for Sustainability, Equality and Climate Action.I\'m open to consultancy engagements, advisory roles, and speaking opportunities in the areas of UBI policy, climate finance, cash transfer design, and economic justice advocacy. I\'m also actively seeking funders and partners who believe climate finance should reach people directly.Get in touch: p••••••@equalright.org | equalright.org
