ABOUT PATRICK WILSON

Patrick is a senior leader and lawyer, with a diverse background. He provides governance, legal, and regulatory advice to boards, executives, and project teams. People seek Patrick’s counsel because of his unique ability to translate complex legal and regulatory concepts into simple, actionable guidance, and because of his genuine care for the people he works with. His key work focuses on providing guidance on, and leading responses, to the Financial Advice Regime, the Credit Contracts Legislation Amendment Act, the Climate-related Disclosures Bill, the Conduct of Financial Institutions Bill, and the Reserve Bank Act consultation, encapsulating both the new Reserve Bank Act and Deposit Takers Act. Clear, convincing communication is one of Patrick’s hallmarks. For instance, New Zealand’s Minister of Finance recently doubled the size of the proposed Deposit Protection Scheme using Patrick’s submission on deposit protection to partially explain his decision. Patrick also writes, and teaches people to write, board papers and legal documents in plain English. Patrick’s experience includes intellectual property, aviation, regulatory investigation and litigation, banking and finance, oil and gas, international agreements, contract negotiations, and accident compensation. He is most proud of his positive outlook and deep care for people. This includes building trust and communication across and within teams. He doesn’t just stress rules and procedures; he cultivates virtue.
