As the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Manager I am responsible for managing/coordinating a comprehensive GIS utilizing comprehensive and diverse data that support transportation as a primary objective but support and enhance other statewide initiatives. Other responsibilities include managing/coordinating the traffic modeling team and maintaining the State Travel Demand Model along with all of the hardware, software and data necessary for modeling operations. I coordinate with and work in conjunction with each area of responsibility in Multimodal Planning Division to assist in the development of a holistic and fully integrated statewide multimodal transportation plan. I work closely with internal and external customers, Divisions/Agencies to develop and maintain a GIS system and traffic modeling system that is statewide and as inclusive as practical.

During the last 19 years I worked in a variety of GIS roles including industries such as biological, hydrological, cultural resources, environmental planning, and transportation GIS. I work closely with data stewards to understand their pain points. Implementation of good data management/governance practices is what I live for. This includes workflow documentation, training and humble inquiry.I develop task assignments and other technical documents for management. As project manager of several high profile projects such as system implementation, data extraction/clean up efforts and many more. This requires me to be a subject matter expert.My daily activities include mentoring and leading GIS staff on best practices on extracting data and turning it into actionable information. I work closely and build partnerships with other data owners within ADOT to understand their pain points and develop solutions via GIS. My technical knowledge is further complemented by excellent communication skills and an attention to detail. My long-term goals are to gain a dynamic body of knowledge and problem solving abilities using GIS and to use those skills in Director capacity.
