About Patrick Lewis
Returning to Hepburn and Sons LLC I am now Director of the Technology Transition Division. I am leading innovation incubation, developing technologies for transition-readiness into US Navy and DoD applications to meet the warfighters\' needs. During 20••••23, I worked as a Senior Electrical Systems Engineer with GE Power Conversion in Pittsburgh, PA, developing modular solid state transformer technology for US Navy applications. I led projects projects funded through ONR and DARPA, designs for power electronic building block (PEBB) modular solid state transformer solutions. From 20••••22 with Hepburn and Sons LLC, I led the electrical engineering team and proposal management in the Technology Transition Division for U.S. Navy applications. R&D efforts included medium voltage direct current (MVDC) power system protection and grounding, power dense LRU-based conversion systems for hatchable replaceability, shipboard fault localization using machine learning techniques, integration of insulated bus pipe (IBP) power distribution for shipboard space, weight, and cost savings, R&D of MVDC coaxial IBP offering low magnetic signature distribution, and medium voltage insulation health monitoring. I graduated with my Ph.D. in electrical engineering at the University of Pittsburgh in 2018. I was an endowed R.K. Mellon graduate student fellow through the Center for Energy, and my research experience involved power electronics and electric power systems, including protection of modular multilevel converter-based HVDC systems and control of power electronics for system reliability.
