ABOUT PATRICK LEONARD

Global Security & Intelligence Executive - Top Secret/SCI Active20+ years delivering global security and intelligence strategies for the U.S. Dept. of State in key roles worldwide and for Red Horse, a government subcontractor. Executive Leadership – As a senior embassy leader, I played a key role in geopolitical and security decision-making, often serving as deputy in the ambassador’s absence and was promoted to Senior Foreign Service rank. My most rewarding assignment was serving as the White House point-of-contact, providing the National Security Advisor with inter-agency intelligence and security advice (CIA, DOD, DOS) on global security issues. Risk Management & Mitigation – As a Senior Regional Security Officer in five Embassies, I assessed, managed, and mitigated risk while implementing cost-effective security infrastructure, policies, and procedures at embassies. I continuously adapted security measures to evolving threats and gained extensive crisis management experience in high-risk environments. Diplomatic & Collaborative Leadership – I believe success is built through cooperation and collaboration. I am a dedicated collaborator and influencer across organizational, cultural, and national boundaries. As Deputy Ambassador, I restored relations with Nicaraguan law enforcement, leading to the successful capture and extradition of 11 U.S. fugitives. Creative Problem-Solving – Operating in conflict zones fosters adaptability and spurs innovative solutions. During a period of rising ISIS influence, I helped the U.S. government mitigate ISIS activities and avoid their export and expansion to the U.S. by enabling funding and providing training for local police in counterterrorism. Strategic Communications – Over the years I’ve honed my communication skills and am considered a polished, diplomatic, and persuasive communicator. So much so that I provided geopolitical security briefings to the State Department Press Secretary, ensuring messaging was framed with the appropriate emphasis and nuance. I also authored a well-received white paper for President Obama, detailing embassy security measures post-Benghazi. Personal Characteristics – Diplomatic, collaborative, persuasive, innovative, and driven. Also, a nationally ranked triathlete!
