ABOUT PATRICK J PJ ONEILL
Dr PJ O’Neill is an accomplished Trauma & Acute Care Surgeon and Surgical Intensivist who has practiced in the Greater Phoenix metropolitan area since 2004. With a wealth of experience and a commitment to advancing medical knowledge, Dr O’Neill has consistently demonstrated unwavering dedication to program development, clinical leadership, patient care, and education.In 2006, Dr O’Neill founded the first Surgical Critical Care Residency in Phoenix (Maricopa Medical Center; now Valleywise Health Medical Center). He directed the program until 2014 when he left to co-found a new American College of Surgeons verified Level II Trauma Center (Abrazo West Campus, Goodyear). As the Trauma Medical Director, Dr O\'Neill demonstrated a commitment to excellence by developing protocols, organizing multispecialty collaboration, and leading quality assurance measures.Currently serving as a Surgical Intensivist and Trauma & Acute Care Surgeon at Team Health / Abrazo Central, Arrowhead, West, & Scottsdale Campuses, Dr O’Neill oversees the operative and intensive care of critically ill medical, trauma, and surgical patients. His collaborative approach involves working with a diverse range of healthcare professionals to ensure a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to patient care.As a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix, Dr O\'Neill plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of medical professionals through the training of residents, medical, and health professional students.Earning a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Physiology, Dr O\'Neill has utilized this foundation to contribute significantly to clinical trials and research projects, including national studies funded by NIH and NINDS. His commitment to advancing knowledge is evident through numerous high-impact journal publications in medicine and science.Dr O’Neill\'s achievements have been recognized with prestigious awards such as the Golden Scalpel Award for Excellence in Teaching, 1st Place in the Young Investigator Competition (Surgical Infection Society), and the Jerry B Scott Award for Excellence in Teaching, Research, and Service (Michigan State University). As a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr O’Neill continues to exemplify the highest standards of surgical practice. Board-certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care, with board-eligibility in Neuro Critical Care (2024), his commitment to maintaining the highest levels of certification underscores his dedication to ongoing professional development.
