Warner Classics was recently strengthened significantly following the acquisition of Parlophone Label Group (PLG) which included EMI Classics and Virgin Classics labels, now Warner Classics and Erato Classics was launched in April 1988 by Richard Branson, the founder and director of Virgin Records. Its aim, from the beginning, was to record repertoire underrepresented by the established classical companies and to bring to recorded classical music the freshness of approach that had made the Virgin brand a byword for excellence and innovation worldwide. Virgin Classics, while an integral part of the legendary EMI Classics, continues to assert its creative independence.
