ABOUT PATRICK FITZGIBBONS

I currently serve as a senior vice president and Senior Communications Manager at M&T Bank in New York City - focusing largely on Wilmington Trust’s wealth and institutional trust management side of the business.After almost 20 years in the news business as a reporter and editor, I made the transition from media to public relations and communications.I have worked with clients, and now the Bank, on every possible issue a financial and corporate media specialist could face – global crises leading to litigation; new product launches; complicated cross-border M&A; and introductions of executives to global media and investors - using my writing, media training and presentation skills; my experience building and managing large teams; and my relationships with the media, investors and other parties.After graduating from St. Michael’s College, I began my journalism career at The Bond Buyer covering some of the largest infrastructure projects in the country – including the cleanup of the Boston Harbor and the construction of Boston Central Artery. In 1992-93, I was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in investigative journalism.After two years working at investment bank Bear Stearns & Co. in equity research, I helped start the Markets team at TheStreet.com.From there, I began a decade-long stint at Reuters News, as editor-in-charge of a team of 20-25 reporters covering all facets of Corporate America, including investment banking & exchanges, insurance & markets, consumer & retail, manufacturing, automotive and corporate governance. My team of reporters and I won the National story of the year for our coverage of the automotive crisis.Now, as an in-house public relations and communications leader at the bank, I have worked on almost every type of significant facing the bank or the financial industry.I have also been involved with St. Michael’s College since graduation and completed a two-year term as President of the Alumni Board of Directors in 2025. In 2025, I was chosen as a member of the Board of Trustees. I am also involved with SCARC in New Jersey - which provides career, legal, and community services to individuals with special needs.
