About Patrick Day
I’m a junior kinesiology major at the University of Houston, pursuing a career in medicine with a focus on both clinical excellence and community impact. With a 3.95 GPA and a strong foundation in the sciences, I’m currently preparing for the MCAT and planning to apply to Texas medical schools in the upcoming cycle.One of the most impactful experiences in my pre-med journey was a medical apprenticeship in the Philippines, where I spent 150 hours under the mentorship of Dr. Romeo Abiog. During this immersive, hands-on program, I observed the clinical and operational duties of several areas of medicine, including Sports Medicine, Cardiology, OB Gynecology, and Orthopedic Surgery. I also participated in 4 medical missions with the University of Saint Louis Medical School’s MOMFI organization, helping deliver care to underserved communities. In these missions, I performed several minor procedures, such as circumcision, electrocardiography, cyst excision, and ear irrigation. This experience not only strengthened my clinical awareness but also deepened my commitment to serving patients with compassion, especially in resource-limited settings.Beyond the apprenticeship, I’ve volunteered over 150 hours at Texas Children’s Hospital, shadowed physicians across a variety of specialties, and conduct research through the RISE lab at UH. I also compete on the UH Powerlifting Team and will serve as Vice President of a new forensic science organization I’m co-founding to help connect students to interdisciplinary opportunities in forensics and medicine.I’m driven by curiosity, purpose, and the belief that great physicians are both skilled and empathetic. I’m always open to connecting with others in medicine, healthcare, or research who share these values.
