Facilitating the establishment and growth of a wave energy test site off Marine Corps Base Hawaii (MCBH), funded by the US Navy. This is the first grid-connected wave energy test site in the US. Managing a team of electrical and marine engineers, oceanographers, ocean and geophysical fluid modelers, acousticians, and biologists to help advance the fledgling and exciting field of wave energy conversion to tackle Navy, Hawaii, and US renewable energy goals. Also involved in other pursuits in the marine energy field, including seawater air-conditioning and OTEC. Managing the creation of a photovoltaic test site, powering a hydrogen fueling station, at MCBH.

ABOUT PATRICK CROSS
Following a Navy career in submarines and as a meteorology/oceanography officer, worked with a small ocean acoustics engineering company called OASIS, doing innovative Navy-funded work with AUVs and acoustic sensors. Worked a wide variety of projects, primarily serving in technical management, fleet liaison, program advisory, and field trial management roles. Conceived and led an ONR project called Ocean Sentinel, to outfit a wind-powered vessel, ultimately as an autonomous persistent sensing platform. In July 2013, I joined the faculty at the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute, within the University of Hawaii at Manoa. This is an exciting opportunity to apply my oceanography and management background to the field of renewable energy, particularly in the marine environment. I am focused initially on establishing a wave energy test site in Hawaii, funded by the US Navy, in hopes of advancing that fledgling industry by tackling key scientific and engineering questions of relevance to wave energy conversion. I will also be involved in photovoltaic technology studies and assessments of the impacts of seawater air conditioning projects on the ocean environment.
