About Pat Ervin

I am driven, inquisitive, and enthusiastic. My main aspiration is to continue to learn and grow and to apply my diverse knowledge and skillset to the various aspects of my life.I am passionate about changing the stigma of having a disability, especially in the educational system and in the professional world. I have channeled this passion to become a CRLA international certified peer educator for TerpsEXCEED. TerpsEXCEED is a 2-year inclusive higher education program at the University of Maryland for students with intellectual disabilities. TerpsEXCEED students work with peer mentors to achieve their academic, social, and career goals. I’ve written an article describing insights I’ve gained through my experiences as a peer mentor for TerpsEXCEED and research I’ve done on the topic of the need for a change in post-secondary education for students with intellectual disabilities. Another passion of mine is cars. I love learning about automotive engineering, especially powertrain systems. I gained experience in this area as a member of the University of Maryland’s Formula One Team, Terps Racing, through research and hands-on applications. I am always seeking to learn more through research, connections, and hands-on experience.I started my own personal business doing car maintenance and detailing including oil changes, spark plug replacements, braking system replacements, tire rotations, headlight restorations, air filter replacements, check engine light diagnosis, full interior and exterior detailing, etc. Here’s the link to my Facebook page if you’d like to find out more about it: a more personal note, in my free time, I enjoy rock climbing, playing guitar, and attending concerts.
