Staff Chaplain in trauma unit at University of Oklahoma Medical Center and Oklahoma Children\'s Hospital As Staff Chaplain, provide pastoral counseling and spiritual support to patients, family members/significant others and healthcare staff throughout the hospital including emergency dept, trauma unit, and all other units including children’s hospital. Actively serve as a member of an interfaith pastoral care staff sharing in activities such as staff meetings, on-call responsibilities, and providing meaningful spiritual care and pastoral support. Provide direct patient care as requested for emergency and routine requests. Assess spiritual needs/concerns of patients and their families using clinical pastoral conversation. Communicate and document patient responses to determine the effectiveness and congruence with plan of care. Provide Pastoral care support to dying patients, grieving families and staff directly involved with the patient care. Work as decedent affairs liaison to coordinate care for the patients connect patients and families with bereavement services. Offer grief support during hospitalization and connect patients and families with bereavement services. Make routine visits to patients to offer spiritual guidance and support. Listen confidentially and attentively to what is most meaningful to patients and families. Assist in processing feelings of anger, fear, hopelessness, or despair. Participate in patient care conferences, trainings, department quality improvement initiatives, and policy reviews. Demonstrate knowledge of medical ethics and legal issues including advance care planning, organ donation, and patient rights. Act as a primary contact for ethics concerns and formal consultations.
