About Sara Rogers

I’m passionate about strengthening the role of nursing in infectious disease care, not just within clinics and hospitals, but across the systems that shape public health. My focus is on building the professional foundation for a true infectious disease nursing specialty: one that gives nurses the standards, competencies, and educational pathways needed to lead in this field.Clinically, my work centers on the care of patients with complex infections, particularly nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) and prosthetic joint infections. I’m drawn to cases that require persistence, problem-solving, and partnership with patients over the long term. These experiences continually remind me that infectious disease nursing is not just about managing pathogens; it’s about helping people navigate uncertainty, regain control, and rebuild health. In 2022, I founded the Infectious Disease Nurse Practitioners Society of America (IDNPSA) to create a national platform where nurses could define their own role in infectious disease care. Today, our work is supported by the American Association of Infectious Disease Nurses (AAIDN) and continues to grow through member collaboration, professional development, and partnerships that advance nursing-led infectious disease expertise. My goal has always been simple: to make sure nurses have a formal seat at the table when it comes to infectious disease policy, education, and care delivery. We’re building something that doesn’t just support clinicians today but prepares the next generation of nurses to lead through the infectious disease challenges of tomorrow. If you’re a nurse, educator, or organization interested in shaping the future of infectious disease nursing, I invite you to learn more at
