ABOUT PASQUALE PAGANO
I am the Director of the InfraScience Laboratory and a Senior Researcher at the \"Istituto di Scienza e Tecnologie dell\'Informazione A. Faedo\"(ISTI) of the Italian National Research Council (CNR). My academic foundation was built at the University of Pisa, where I earned my M.Sc. in Information Systems Technologies in 1998 and later my PhD in Information Engineering in 2006. My core research mission focuses on the study and experimentation of models and methodologies for designing and developing distributed virtual research environments (VREs). This demanding work requires managing heterogeneous computational and storage resources provided by modern Grid and Cloud e-infrastructures to handle diverse scientific data sources effectively. This focus is underpinned by a strong practical background in distributed architectures, a speciality I honed while participating in the design of the most relevant distributed systems and e-infrastructure enabling middleware developed by ISTI - CNR.My leadership roles translate this research into real-world impact. I serve as the Executive Director of D4Science, a vital Hybrid Data Infrastructure that currently supports over scientists across 87 countries. In this capacity, I am also the chief manager of the gCube software, the robust open-source platform essential for the management and operation of these scientific data infrastructures. My commitment to international scientific infrastructure extends to my role as the Infrastructure Manager for the SoBigData Research Infrastructure and as the Project Coordinator of the ambitious Blue-Cloud2026 Horizon Europe project. Furthermore, I maintain active collaboration with the Data e-Infrastructure Initiative for Fisheries Management and Conservation of Marine Living Resources (iMarine).I am currently the Executive Director of D4Science, the Hybrid Data Infrastructure serving more than scientists in 87 countries, and chief manager of gCube software, the open-source platform for managing and operating scientific data infrastructures. I am also still collaborating with the Data e-Infrastructure Initiative for Fisheries Management and Conservation of Marine Living Resources (iMarine). I am serving the SoBigData Research Infrastructure as Infrastructure Manager, and I am the Project Coordinator of the Blue-Cloud2026 Horizon Europe project.
