ABOUT DAVID PARRY-SMITH
As the Head of Cellular Informatics at Wellcome Sanger Institute, I oversee the informatics operations and data engineering activities related to cell-based technologies. My team is part of the Informatics and Digital Solutions department. We aim to understand the role of all the genes in the human genome and their implications for health and disease. I have more than 30 years of experience in applying computational biology and bioinformatics to R&D for basic genomic research and preclinical drug discovery programs in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry.I have a strong background in scientific management, programming, machine learning, and Python, and I have contributed to the development and integration of LIMS systems, CRISPR resources, and gene targeting vectors for the Sanger Institute and its global partners. I am also a certified Professional Scrum Product Owner and Professional Scrum Master, and I use agile methods to deliver value to our stakeholders and customers. Additionally, I serve as the chair of the Employee Partnership, the Institute\'s staff consultation body, where I help to make Sanger a great place to work. My mission is to leverage my expertise and experience to advance genomic research and informatics for the benefit of science and society.
