About Parker Dipaolo
Words matter—not only do we use language to convey information, but also to build and maintain relationships with one another.I describe myself as a computational sociolinguist. My academic training from Georgetown University’s Master’s in Language and Communication (MLC) program was grounded in interactional sociolinguistics and discourse analysis, but my passion for AI and NLP led me to explore the nuances of human-language technologies from technical, coding, and ethical perspectives. I am invested in understanding how we can make these tools and technologies work more effectively and ethically for us because I believe that language is a universally powerful tool.This philosophy has guided my work in UX research and taxonomy, language strategy and communications consulting, and digital marketing. I’ve used my linguistic expertise in these roles to help companies across multiple industries—such as pharmaceuticals, financial services, technology, and consumer goods—better understand, serve, and connect with their target audiences.My sensitivity to the nuances of language gives me valuable insight into the complex relationship between what we say and what we mean, as well as how people communicate in different ways and in different contexts to accomplish different goals. I am now seeking opportunities where I can leverage this skill set as an asset to solve the problems that companies, clients, and consumers are facing.Academic interests include: general/theoretical linguistics, interactional sociolinguistics, discourse analysis, semantics, pragmatics, syntax, phonology, morphology, historical linguistics, framing, metaphor studies, corpus linguistics, computational linguistics, intercultural communication, conversation analysis, corporate and professional discourse, critical discourse analysis, digital and online discourse.Professional interests include: user experience research (UXR), taxonomy and ontology, natural language processing (NLP), conversation design and conversational AI (CAI), ethical AI, ML, voice user interface (VUI), language strategy, branding and naming.
