The word is derived from the Sanskrit word “Dhi” meaning thought and “Yana” meaning carriage. These two words when woven together, form Dhiyana which means to think and reflect. Our three key principles are REVERE I.e. to respect the process, the art and the craftspeople, REFORM i.e. changing mindsets towards waste, considering it an asset with endless possibilities and REVIVE I.e. to bring new life and consciousness into a cluster of scraps that would otherwise be considered waste ending up in landfills. What are we exactly doing? We as a startup are trying to reverse a design flaw, i.e. waste. We are using pre-consumer textile scraps, from local boutiques (starting with our own) and discarded, defected fabrics from local shops and turning them into handcrafted goods for everyday use through up-cycling. The waste comprises of little pieces of katran (fabric scraps) that come in different shapes, sizes and texture. This is why up-cycling them is one tedious process involving lots of thought, sorting and careful craftsmanship.
