About Pam Parker

I\'ve published short fiction and nonfiction. My short stories have appeared in literary journals like THE POTOMAC REVIEW, THE MACGUFFIN, PORTLAND MAGAZINE and more. A recent essay for THE WASHINGTON POST,\"I survived cancer. So why was I so sad?\" was also picked up by THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE, THE NEW ZEALAND HERALD and THE SPRINGFIELD REPUBLICAN. Other essays have appeared in two anthologies, DONE DARKNESS (which I co-edited with Kathy Lanzarotti; Orange Hat Press) and FAMILY STORIES FROM THE ATTIC, Hidden Timber Books. In addition, as a contributor of audio essays to my local public radio channel, WUWM, my audio essay \"The End of Pinktober,\" won first place, large market essay from the WI Broadcasting Association. The majority of my nonfiction has been related to mental health issues (especially depression and suicide) and cancer. The recent WaPo essay dealt with the intersection of those issues. I have written successful grants and press releases in volunteer efforts for Wauwatosa Presbyterian Church and Wauwatosa West High School. In my previous career in public relations, I wrote and prepared for print in-house newsletters and publicity materials: brochures, flyers, announcements. On a volunteer basis, I have helped many writer friends with editing and proofreading their work over the last fifteen years. I am proud to have helped in the creation of short story collections, creative non-fiction manuscripts and countless essays, short stories and flash fiction pieces.
