Philadelphia, PA, US

In response to the growing need for emergency food assistance in the city, developed food transportation system to collect surplus perishable food from the food service & hospitality industries and deliver it free-of-charge to agencies serving low income individuals and families. Started with a $1500 investment, it was one of the first to target this niche market and the organization served as a model for other cities around the country. Philabundance is now the region’s largest food bank and food access innovator and raises more than $20 million a year to underwrite core programming. In addition to the tasks involved in creating the organization, responsibilities included logistics, administrative operations and staff management, budgeting and finance, fundraising, branding, marketing and PR, community outreach, board development, anti-hunger organizing and advocacy, and volunteer program creation and management.

ABOUT PAMELA RAINEY LAWLER

Although best known as the founder of Philabundance - the leading organization in the region dedicated to eliminating hunger and improving food access for families - I\'ve had a diverse career in the corporate, non-profit, and education sectors as well as being a small business owner and political candidate. In ventures both public and private, I\'ve demonstrated leadership, vision, strategic initiative, and the ability to follow-through to successful results.Prior to starting in 1984 one of the nation\'s first perishable foods transportation systems - which served as a model for other cities to access a previously untapped source of emergency food - I worked for corporations and consulting firms as a writer, editor, and manager specializing in corporate communications, community relations, civic engagement, and corporate social responsibility. In 1991, as the Consumer Party candidate in the general election, I had the distinction of being the first woman to run for mayor of Philadelphia. And in keeping with my belief that food and art are life\'s two most elemental components, I serve on the board of PlayPenn, Philadelphia\'s amazing new play development organization.SPECIALTIES: New social enterprise and non-profit venture ideation and start-up; organizational leadership transitions, succession planning, mergers, and culture change; public/private partnerships; fundraising and board development; as well as extensive public speaking on social entrepreneurship, impact philanthropy, non-profit management best practices, and organizational life cycles.
