ABOUT PAMELA LAUREN ASSOGBA

If you are a new — or aspiring, engineer manager and you struggle with building a solid remote team culture, let’s connect. I know too well how overwhelming it can feel to face the many challenges that come with management, especially when interactions are limited to a screen! I also know it doesn’t have to be that way and I’d love to help you create strategies that’ll improve your team’s health and happiness. Since transitioning to engineering leadership, I’ve built safe, inclusive, and performant remote engineering teams by making the work environment transparent, vulnerable, and goal-oriented to empower team members and collaborators to reach their full potential. I am an immigrant who grew up between Togo, Senegal, and other beautiful African countries. That rich cultural experience inspired me to seek a degree in architecture, gain graphic design fluency, and transition to software engineering — the industry I’ve been in for nearly a decade! My background is unique to my skills, and I am grateful for the mentors and managers who have encouraged and challenged me to continue growing. I strive to do the same as a team lead and deeply care about tailoring experiences specific to the team’s unique strengths by building solid relationships with team members and creating growth opportunities. So far in my career, I have successfully hired and promoted engineers, delivered restructuring plans aimed at placing individuals in better-suited roles, built and piloted programs for better work-life balance, and created lots of fun team-building activities.(Corporate fun doesn’t have to be awkward!) Outside of supporting engineering teams, I spend my time running around Portland (OR), crocheting fun outfits, and reading novels cuddled up with my cats Dean and Bobbi. If you’d like to talk about people management in engineering teams, if you’re currently going through a tricky problem related to management, or if you just care about building and working in healthy teams, let’s chat!
