ABOUT PALLAVI SARKHEL

I\'m a Ph.D. candidate and currently serving as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Chemistry Department at the University of Alabama at Birmingham under Keinänen Research Group. With a foundation in chemistry, holding an Integrated Master of Science degree from Birla Institute of Technology Mesra. Before embarking on my Ph.D, I gained valuable experience through internships at ICRISAT, NEHU, NIT Meghalaya, and IISER Bhopal. My research work aims on understanding the intersection of chemistry and environmental health which helps us to relate the impact of micro- and nanoplastic pollution on human health. Within our laboratory, we employ innovative radiolabeling techniques for these materials and employ cutting-edge imaging methods like Positron Emission Tomography (PET) to track their behavior in living organisms.Currently, my focus revolves around developing radiolabeling techniques tailored for various polymeric materials, ensuring minimal perturbation to their physicochemical properties. Using Positron Emission Tomography (PET), we gain insights into the in vivo behavior of micro- and nanoplastics at environmentally relevant concentrations. This enables real-time, quantitative data acquisition and facilitates assessments crucial for understanding retention patterns and potential epithelial membrane crossings.I\'m deeply committed to advancing our understanding of environmental contaminants and their impact on human health, and I\'m eager to connect with fellow professionals, researchers, and enthusiasts who share a similar passion for driving positive change in our world.Let\'s connect and explore opportunities!
