I am the Director of Regulatory Affairs at the Florida Surplus Lines Service Office (FSLSO). I am a former litigating attorney with a legal career spanning over 25 years, handling both first-party and third-party claims, and over 30 years’ experience in the insurance industry. Previously, I worked as a Partner for QPWB in the Tallahassee Office; as in-house counsel for a Florida-based commercial property and casualty insurer; as an Insurance Agent; and both an Insurance Specialist and an Investigator for the Florida Department of Insurance/Financial Services. My focus was primarily in the areas of insurance defense and regulatory matters, at both the trial and appellate levels, as well as conducting Mediations.I have handled a wide variety of Regulatory and Administrative cases, assisted companies with drafting policy language for approval by the OIR, and represented the Florida Department of Financial Services in an Insurance Liquidation matter. I have handled a variety of complex cases, including large losses, automobile liability, contractual liability, product liability, and wrongful death actions. I have experience handling a myriad of cases, including general Insurance Defense, Coverage, Declaratory Actions, Bad Faith, Bodily Injury, Liability, Property, Bad Faith and (SIU) Special Investigative Unit matters, as well as defense of Nursing Homes and Assisted Living Facilities.I am a Certified Investigator by The Council of Licensure, Enforcement and Regulation (CLEAR) and was formerly trained as a Mediator by the American Arbitration Association. Additionally, I am actively involved with the Florida Department of Financial Services and the Office of Insurance Regulation - two agencies responsible for the regulation, compliance and enforcement of statutes related to the business of insurance. I am rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating a lawyer can receive, which indicates a demonstration of the highest professional and ethical standards. I am also fluent in Spanish.
