As a Computer Vision Engineer Intern at Marmon Rail: UTLX, I developed a prototype railway track segmentation model using a custom YOLOv8 architecture, trained on the Railsem dataset to localize and segment tracks for autonomous navigation. I optimized inference pipelines for edge deployment with TensorRT, achieving 28 FPS throughput on 30 FPS video streams, outperforming OpenVINO, ONNX, and PyTorch implementations, and integrated the results into a PyQt5-based GUI for real-time validation.To tackle complex junction environments, I independently curated and annotated Marmon rail shunting yard data and applied advanced post-processing techniques such as CLAHE, denoising, and multiple ROIs, enabling the model to accurately identify only the current track to follow. This effort resulted in the delivery of Version 1, which successfully predicts the correct track in real-world tests. I am now expanding the dataset and iteratively retraining the model to move toward a production-level solution capable of delivering perfect segmentation masks for railway tracks.
