ABOUT VENKATA PADMAVATHI SAGI

My interdisciplinary academic work and research in Civil, Geotechnical, Structural, Wind and Offshore Engineering: • Conducted field surveys, and designed and analysed a pedestrian bridge using STAAD PRO.• Worked on site improvement techniques using pre-cast densified stone columns.• Worked on an industrial project in estimating the rock fracture strength.• Developed a new degradation model to identify the strength degradation of laterally loaded offshore piles.• Conducted physically demanding field experiments and damage surveys after tornados.• Estimated the wind speeds based on the condition of damaged structures after high wind speed events using civil engineering principles.• Conducted novel large scale wind tunnel experiments with trenching in sand and clay soil media.• Calibrated and successfully used the state of the art instrumentation. • Conducted rigorous analysis of large data sets, used nuance statistical analysis and programming techniques for the study.• Estimated structural and aerodynamic damping of a complex structure with increase in dynamic loads for the first time.• Examined the key differences in static and dynamic load response of structures with foundations in sand and clay.• Used the Rainflow technique of offshore industry in wind engineering, to relate the dynamic load and corresponding structural and foundation response.• Used first order second moment structural reliability method (FOSM) to understand the failure probability distribution. My Industrial Work Experience:• Developed new composite panels for cladding with fire resistance above the acceptable Canadian building code requirements (ULC S134) and superior to the competition in the market.• Worked with independent labs for product certification and extensive testing for North American building code compliance.• Worked to establish a new in-house testing facility and to train the research group.• Customised and conducted in-house tests based on ASTM, UL and CSA Standards.• Established cordial working relationships with research heads and executives from various European companies.• Sourced and researched for new state-of-the-art materials and equipment from international markets.• Wrote multiple patent applications, advanced research proposals to work with universities and scientific research and engineering development (SR & ED) applications for government grants.• Worked on innovative solar module designs and attended an international solar cell conference in Switzerland.
