I teach Reading (EFL-073), an intermediate-level academic reading course that prepares multilingual learners for college-level study. The class emphasizes vocabulary development, cultural awareness, and strategies for reading and comprehending both expository and literary texts.My approach is highly student-centered: instead of relying on lecture, I create spaces where students take ownership of their learning. In-class sessions are built around collaborative activities such as Harkness and Fishbowl discussions, as well as small-group and pair work. When assessed, these activities are guided by clear rubrics that value critical thinking, collaboration, and comprehension.Ultimately, my role is less about direct instruction and more about facilitating meaningful engagement with texts, helping students gain the confidence and strategies they need to succeed in academic contexts.
