About Ozakh Ahmed

By centering the power of community engagement, I intend to spend my career maximizing the capacity of mental health and wellness efforts at the margins of society. My background in social service includes work in reproductive justice as a health educator, counselor, and organizer. In my previous role as an AmeriCorps member at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, I worked directly with grassroots organizations in order to expand and enhance their ability to serve food to neighbors experiencing food insecurity. I took a skills-based approach to build upon the organizations\' strengths and increase access to external resources necessary for success. My experience in program administration and community work affirms my perspective that the key to any role in social service is to ensure the sustainability of the position\'s responsibilities. As Director of Rhodes College\'s campus- and community-wide social service organization and in my current role, I emphasize the importance of creating institutional documentation of standards of practice that I established throughout my terms. A concentration on sustainability prepares future iterations of the work to continue offering the best care possible.I aspire to one day join the ranks of licensed mental health professionals in their efforts to revolutionize the practice. The future of mental health care relies on our ability to reconstruct the concept of wellness and targeted care.
