ABOUT OWEN HEIT
Hello! My name is Owen Heit, a current nursing student at the University of Pennsylvania and a passionate advocate for equity and inclusion in healthcare and nursing leadership. Before transferring to Penn, I graduated from South Seattle College, where I developed a strong foundation of professional skills through leading clubs, honors societies, committees, and student associations. These experiences taught me how to create meaningful change not only within my campus community but also across broader educational and professional spaces.During my time at South Seattle, I led committees, clubs, and the honors society. These roles gave me hands-on experience in planning large-scale events, facilitating group collaboration, and organizing effective and inclusive meetings. I became adept at navigating the logistics of higher education, working directly with staff on budgeting, room reservations, and vendor coordination—all while balancing academics and patient care as a CNA.My leadership extended beyond my college through my involvement with the Nursing Students of Washington State (NSWS), where I served two terms on the board, first as Breakthrough to Nursing Director and later as Treasurer. These roles connected me with the National Student Nurses’ Association (NSNA), offering me the opportunity to engage with nursing students and professionals from across the country. Through NSNA, I co-authored a nationally adopted resolution, helped plan two annual conventions, and gained invaluable insight into advocacy, policy, and the power of student voices in shaping the future of nursing. Each of these experiences has strengthened my commitment to nursing leadership and affirmed my belief in the importance of equitable representation in healthcare. I am actively seeking inpatient roles where I can expand my healthcare experience in high-acuity settings and contribute to advancing advocacy at all levels of my society.
