ABOUT OWEN CARLSON

I grew up at The Taft School, a boarding school in Connecticut, where my parents were teachers and my dad also coached basketball. For one of these years, we moved to Aix-en-Provence, France, where I attended a local French school. In 2013, we moved to Tampa, FL, where I finished middle school and high school. I attended Tampa Prep, where I played basketball and graduated in 2019 with a concentration in video production. Throughout high school, I spent summers at Sankaty Head Caddie Camp on Nantucket. After high school, I attended Rhodes College, a small liberal arts college in Memphis, TN. I was recruited for basketball and played some of my first year, before seeking different opportunities to stay connected to sports during COVID, including my work in the Sports Information Office. I also helped operate numerous social media accounts for student organizations around campus, including the Soccer Club (I was also co-founder), the A Capella group (I was also lead baritone), and the African Students Association. Throughout high school and college, I also worked as a freelance music producer, contributing to the production of over 50 songs released across various platforms, as well as the creation of multiple music videos. I graduated in 2023 as a music major with an emphasis on digital production. After college, I worked as an assistant trainer for PATH Hoops, a basketball program in Atlanta specializing in training high level recruits and professional players in individual and group workouts, and I began writing for the New England Recruiting Report (@NERRHoops), reporting on high school basketball news, hosting showcases (including the National Prep Championship Series), and assisting players with their college recruitment. I began working as an Assistant Coach and Dorm Parent at Darrow School, also working in Social Media and substituting for French 2. My role for the basketball program was in player development and recruitment, as well as creating the Instagram page (@darrowhoops) and assisting in the transition of head coaches, as Antonio Anderson replaced Assane Sene, who left to join the Detroit Pistons coaching staff. My next prep school gig was at Millbrook School, where I served in a similar role under Head Coach (and NEPSAC Basketball President) Billy Thom, also working as a Dorm Parent, helping with the community service program, and substituting for US History. We advanced to the NEPSAC finals for the first time in school history. Most recently, I accepted an offer to join the MIT Men’s Basketball coaching staff as an assistant.
