ABOUT OUSMANE DIOP

I am a dedicated educator and historian currently serving as a full-year 7th Grade Social Studies teacher at John Ruhrah Elementary/Middle School in Baltimore City. This is my second year in the classroom, where I strive to make history meaningful and relevant for my students by connecting past events to present-day issues and encouraging critical thinking and civic engagement.I earned my bachelor’s degree in History and Education from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), with minors in Political Science and Africana Studies, and I am continuing my studies in UMBC’s Master’s Program in History. My graduate research explores themes of justice, race, and law in American history, particularly the ways historical narratives shape our understanding of inequality and social change.I am passionate about empowering young people through education and fostering inclusive, equitable learning environments. My long-term goals include advancing in the field of education, contributing to historical scholarship, and potentially pursuing law school to further advocate for justice and educational equity.With over five years of experience in customer service and hospitality, I bring strong communication, leadership, and empathy to both academic and professional spaces. I aim to be remembered as someone who teaches, leads, and lives with purpose, committed to creating a more just, informed, and compassionate world.
