ScopeThe Work Planning and Control (WP & C) Functional Area Manager (FAM) wears three hats. It is the subject matter expert of WP & C for the Lab, which includes the planning, scheduling, and performance of research, maintenance, and procured services. This requires the management of a technical program, including managing stakeholder groups, updating policies, training, and software tools, performing and supporting internal and external assessments, corrective issues, actions, risks and opportunities, and developing continuous improvement strategies. It is also the payroll manager for 65 personnel, the majority of which are matrixed to customer organizations to support their work. Lastly, it is also a project manager for many administrative projects. Projects (Top 51••••••26, In-Progress) The planning and scheduling process for maintenance work was overhauled: new procedures, training, and software changes were made, two roles were consolidated into one, multiple organizational changes were made, a new maintenance scheduler role was introduced.22•••••25) Reorganized the method of work authorization for a customer organization with over workers into a preferred arrangement.32•••••25) All sixty LLNL nuclear facility operational safety plans were rewritten in the new Work Control Document format, which informed operations at four nuclear and two radiological facilities.4.(2025) The first AI Toolkit was introduced to Work Planners, which included functions to perform task breakdowns, integrate lessons learned, and propose set of controls for requested scope of work.5.(2022) The entire population of authorizing documents for all active work were transcribed into a new WP & C format, including those for research, maintenance, and procured services.
