ABOUT OSCAR WILLIAMS
I love learning and I’m an unapologetic nerd. I want to help make the world a better place. I have a lifelong passion for the environment, stirred up as a kid struggling to surf on the rugged Cornish coastline. I think life is all about challenging yourself and having fun while you’re at it. I\'ve built a broad professional portfolio across the energy sector. My analytical and strategic skills help individuals, businesses and countries maximise their impact to tackle climate change most effectively. I have developed a strong technical and detail-oriented analytical skill base through my doctoral research into nanomaterials for clean energy, which is invaluable in understanding the scientific concepts behind technologies. Through designing, developing and delivering policies for Net Zero in the Government, I learned how to manage large-scale decarbonisation projects and support the growth of green markets. My work on key strategic documents helped me understand how to manage a nation\'s energy system and I built on my strong problem solving skillset with cross-governmental functions, particularly supporting the energy sector through the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. I combined my communication skills with my green energy credentials in my next role, at clean energy scale-up Dare Global, a proprietary energy trading firm. I co-developed Dare\'s green brand from scratch and built up the internal culture throughout a period of aggressive growth. This role was focused on communications, marketing, green finance and growing a business. Working closely with the CEO and C-suite gave me deep exposure to the energy markets and helped me to understand how private business operations, start-ups and scale-ups interact with the wider energy landscape and global economy. I am a strong advocate for inclusion and diversity, and a particularly important area for me personally is mental health.
