ABOUT OSCAR LOPEZ

Hi, my name is Oscar Lopez and I am a recent Government and Canfield Business Honors graduate of the University of Texas at Austin. My interests lie at the intersection of technology, public policy, environmental justice, and economics.Currently I serve on the Advisory Board for Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation where I am working to break the stigma around mental health in Latinx communities, and am a member of the Laredo Food Policy Council where I\'m helping reverse food deserts in my hometown.Over the past five years, I worked to expand broadband access as a Google Public Policy Fellow, a Policy Fellow with Next Century Cities, and beyond. In the summer of 2021 I worked as a Summer Analyst at Goldman Sachs where I worked to expand access to venture capital funding to women and minority-founded companies for the firm’s $1 Billion Launch With GS initiative, and in the spring of 2022 I advanced the Biden administration’s federal climate policy as an intern with the White House Council on Environmental Quality. As a Business Honors and Government Student at the University of Texas at Austin, I served as the first Central American Speaker of the Student Government Assembly where I focused on advocating for increased access to mental health resources for students. From May 2019 to May 2020 and May 2021 to May 2022, I held a seat on the Student Services Budget Committee which is tasked with advising university administration on the type and level of compulsory fees for student services and the allocation of the $41 million student services budget.Along the way, I\'ve earned a number of awards and recognitions for my work and have published articles and written pieces on topics ranging from broadband access to food deserts. I have also spoken about the digital divide at various conferences across the United States. Feel free to connect with me at: o••••••••@utexas.edu
