ABOUT OSCAR RODRIGUEZ
I have been in the fire service since 2001, and with the City of San Diego since 2004. I have worked all over the city in many capacities. I am a member of the Technical Rescue Team, a Rescue Squad Officer on USAR Task Force 8, a fire academy instructor and a State Fire Marshal instructor in many rescue disciplines. I spent the last three years in the South East area of San Diego as Battalion 6. I truly enjoy learning and teaching all levels of firefighter skills. My focus is on leadership and creating a learning environment where firefighters can learn from their mistakes, build upon them and perform beyond their perceived potential. In my battalion my focus, after service, is building the leaders for tomorrow. I did not get here without the guidance and mentorship of many outstanding officers before me. It would be a disservice to not pass on the skills I acquired to my crews and those I work with. Starting this January (2026), I have started a new role as the Battalion Chief of Training for San Diego Fire-Rescue. This has been a professional goal of mine. I am looking forward to the new challenge and will be posting an update soon. Personally I have a beautiful wife and three children. I spend as much time traveling with family as possible. Most of our free time is now spent a the softball field for my daughter or baseball/soccer/basketball for the boys!
