About Oystein Friestad Saebo
I am a technologist and architect with 30+ years of experience in algorithm design, specializing in diagnostic microbiology and high-performance bioinformatics. My goal is to make Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and Long-Read Sequencing as simple, fast, and secure as we did for Sanger for every clinical lab.My Key Technical Milestones:Patented Human Read Removal: Inventor of the proprietary algorithm that identifies and removes human DNA reads locally. This ensures that no human genomic data ever leaves the client institution, removing the primary privacy hurdle for cloud-based diagnostics.FDA Breakthrough Designation: Technical lead for the Patho-Seq assay, recognized by the FDA for its significant clinical advantage in identifying life-threatening infections (Sepsis, Meningitis) up to 48 hours faster than standard Data Compression: Engineered a novel local-processing pipeline that reduces NGS data overhead by a factor of enabling a full diagnostic report in under 5 minutes via a global SaaS infrastructure.Long-Read Sequencing error correction - making it highly usable in the clinical lab. Results are on par or even better than results from the same sample sequenced using targeted NGS on Illumina. Truly a game changer!Ripseq Portfolio: Leading the development of patented algorithms that serve world-class institutions including the Mayo Clinic, ARUP, and Stanford Medical.Expertise:Bioinformatics Algorithm Design | Data Privacy & Security | Cloud-Based SaaS Architecture | NGS & Long-Read Analysis | Clinical Microbiology | UI/UX for Complex Systems

Founder and CTO
Jul 2015 — Present · Santa Cruz, CA, US
As CTO in Pathogenomix I am refining the bioinformatics algorithms for our Ripseq Mixed, Single and NGS products. Now also adding error correction for Long-Read Sequencing - making it highly usable for the clinical lab.My work include algorithms for pre-processing of bacterial NGS reads, to go from massive NGS data (million of DNA reads) from a sample to a few easy to analyze reads in less than 5 minutes. This will make NGS usable for almost any bacterial infection! Platform agnostic - ION Torrent PGM or Illumina, NGS is great for clinical use and will provide a much more complete result than culture and Sanger every single time.
