During my first spring break (March 11th, 2024- March 18th) as a Syracuse University student, I began volunteering for the notable Alliance Primary Care under direct instruction and training of the 23-years in-practice Family Medicine Specialist, Dr. Anisa Ssengoba. I first began volunteering as a medical assistant single day substitute; however, after my first day, a paid internship as a training medical assistant was offered.The weeklong paid internship consisted of various tasks, including interacting with over a hundred of patients, taking their vitals and documenting them in medical charts, scheduling patient appointments, answering the phone and relaying information, and providing assistance and relief to patients and their healthcare provider, Dr. Ssengoba, through a positive, can-do attitude, upbeat and friendly personality, consistency, and dependability. Additionally, I shadowed Dr. Ssengoba during specific patients visits such as a full body pap smear, liquid ear irrigation, earwax removal, vision testing, and various other tasks where my assistance was needed or where Dr. Ssengoba wanted me to take mental notes in order for me to perform these tasks on my own in the future. Further, I performed administrative and clinical tasks to assist in the safe and effective office operations of Dr. Ssengoba and the medical staff of Alliance Primary Care. Currently, I continue to work at Alliance Primary Care on and off and as frequently as I can.
