About Omar Leon
Omar Leon is a Colombian-born interdisciplinary artist and designer based in Miami. His work focuses on using architecture as a medium for healing and uplifting communities. Inspired by his upbringing as an immigrant, Omar’s work explores the interwoven relationship of culture, space, and identity. He is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s of Architecture at Cornell University with a minor in Design and Environmental Analysis and a concentration in Visual Representation. Omar is the co-founder of Granito de Mostaza’s Miami Foundation which provides underprivileged students in his hometown with educational, domestic, and recreational needs. He has taught Fine Art and English courses throughout the program as well as painting a signature mural for the space.Omar is currently working as an architectural intern at Safdie Architects in Boston focusing on international projects. He has collaborated with professor and artist Sydney Maubert on the fabrication of various award-winning exhibits including the Artists In Residency In the Everglades (AIRIE) and Green Space Miami. He also has experience as a Freelance Designer for residential remodels and has been an Architectural Intern for Gensler, Zyscovich, and Urban Promise. He has also received several awards including the Cornell Crowley B\'Arch prize for best Junior Design, Cornell Meinig Scholarship, the Young Designers Scholarship, Villager’s Architectural Preservation Scholarship, and the Miami Beach Parklet Design Competition.
