This role mainly involves adding new features to, the maintenance of, and support of a server-side Web Service API, a queue consumer, and its associated storage to back both systems. The work I did for the API component and queue consumer involved C#, ASP.NET.NET, Cloud Service and both XUnit and NUnit test frameworks. For storage, I worked with Azure Storage components like Blobs, Queues, Tables as well as Cosmos DB. Due to the data-intensive requirements of many projects, I found myself investing my time in learning and using Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Synapse Analytics, Spark, Python, which were not used by anyone on the team prior. From this I have developed a set of good practices, templates and use cases which I have presented to the team and has been adopted extensively by several individuals on the team. One project required offering no-cost alternatives telephone numbers to customers when stock was low for their preferred area code. This involved the design of a Cosmos DB collection with documents that have pre-calculated alternatives number patterns for each postal code and area code. The documents were generated using Azure Data Factory where various CSVs from our supplier were transformed. I then completed code changes to consume this data. This resulted in 13% of searches returning numbers when stock was depleted. Outside regular duties I proposed and modified an existing Web Service (C#, ASP.NET) to accept a postal/zip code which consumed by Teams Admin Center as a third option for search. This simplified the search process for admins and currently accounts for about 11% of telephone number searches in TAC within US and Canada. To comply with recent EU regulations pertaining to privacy of user data, I was tasked with migrating data to other regions. To facilitate this, I used Spark (Python, Pyspark) in Databricks to copy the data to the appropriate region and used Azure Data Factory to delete the migrated data.
