ABOUT OMAR MORAD

My name is Omar Morad, I am currently working as the Youth Program Officer at Prude Inc. I am also the founder of the Union of Youth Newcomers. I came to Canada in 2018, as a refugee who entered a new country and not being able to speak English, I learned and understand firsthand how challenging it is for newcomers. This is what motivated me to work with newcomers and support them to overcome obstacles and challenges, as well as create a platform and opportunities for these individuals so that they can have a place to connect and feel supported. Being able to create a positive impact in my community has always been with me and it is what motivates me to work hard everyday. Together with my luggage, I have carried different experiences with me to Canada, and all of them have taught me a lot of things. Those experiences can be called as challenges, difficulties, obstacles… because they truly are, but I choose to see them as opportunities for me to learn, to grow, to be stronger, and to utilize what I have learned in helping other people. I want to engage and work with others across the country and create more programs and projects that focus on health and wellness for youth, reduce culture shock when they move to Canada. Everyone needs to feel a sense of belonging, of hope and encouragement and especially those who are young in age and just starting out.
