ABOUT OLUWASEUN AYODELE OLOWOPOROKU

Oluwaseun Olowoporoku holds a PhD in Urban and Regional Planning with disciplinary focus in Urban Adaptability and Resilience. He posses high level experience to shape the successful delivery of sustainable environmental policies, programs, and projects through advocacy, advisory, evidence gathering and dissemination across Sub-Saharan Africa. He has over 8 years of experiences characterized with performance records for developing innovative solutions to contribute to the preparation, implementation, and supervision of successful projects that build resilience of the built environment to disasters, climate change, water supply and sanitation. He has taken lead roles on multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches to shape country sector strategies on climate change, adaptation planning and disaster risk management in African countries. In 2022, he led the DRM sector in the Ethiopia Damage and Needs Assessment Exercise and led the authorship of the DRM chapter of the project. He has been involved in the development of country sector strategies on urban resilience and climate change in countries like Nigeria, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia. He took lead roles in the operationalization of Long Term Strategies and Climate Action Plans of Governments in Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Kenya. Further, his research works exploring conventional and alternative approaches to adaptation and urban resilience, climate risk assessment and planning, and water and sanitation have improved public understanding and informed policy engagements in Africa. He has won several impressive awards and grants. In 2020, he won the SLGA- Strengthening Advisory Capacities for Land Governance in Africa Fellowship, organized by the DAAD. In the same year, he won a scholarship to present a paper at the Africa Economic Conference sponsored by the UNECA and AfDB and a scholarship to attend the Futuring for Sustainability Summer School at Utrecht University, Netherlands. In 2022, he won the World Bank Group African Fellowship Program. In 2023, he won the World Bank Vice President Unit Award in recognition of outstanding team achievement for Recovery Planning 2023 for Multiple Conflicts in Ethiopia.
