ABOUT OLIVIER COMAS

I have a 10-year experience in the field of real-time simulation. I was particularly interested in developing realistic physical models (like finite element methods) for real-time soft tissue simulation. The key to achieve the challenging objective of running such computationally expensive algorithms in real-time is to use GPU technologies. Working on parallelising algorithms on GPU since early 2007, I became an expert on CUDA and I was the first to implement a non-linear, viscoelastic and anisotropic finite element algorithm using CUDA in 2007.In 2014, I learned Metal, a new framework created by Apple for rendering and computing on the GPU on the iOS platform. Using Metal, I implemented a non-linear finite element method algorithm executing on the GPU. To the best of my knowledge, this constitutes a world\'s first on a mobile device. An iPad Air 2 could compute the deformation of 2,700 nodes at 2,500 Hz in real-time along with the calculation of both normals and Von Mises stresses at 60Hz.In the first half of 2015, we developed a real-time UAV simulator for the inspection of structures for the civil industry based on Unreal Engine 4.In November 2015, I joined DMS-Imaging. The DMS group specializes in high technology solutions that serve the needs of the diagnostic medical imaging community. The Group is one of the French leaders in the conception, manufacturing and distribution of imaging systems dedicated to conventional and digital radiology as well as to bone densitometry. Our team is in charge of developing the in-house software that controls our remote-controlled tables: ADAM.
