ABOUT OLIVIER THEVENON

My professional journey has been shaped by a core mission: to produce and share robust, comparative evidence on social, demographic, and economic trends, with a focus on how policies — particularly in the areas of family and social welfare — can adapt to evolving societal challenges. My work combines analytical rigour with a long-term vision to support countries in designing and adjusting policies in response to mega-trends such as population aging, digital transformation, and climate change.My expertise spans cross-country comparisons of social and family policies, child poverty and well-being, social investment strategies, integrated policy-making, fertility, women\'s labour force participation, and the reconciliation of work, family, and personal life. I have also worked extensively on demographic policy-related challenges and, more recently, on emerging challenges such as children\'s well-being in the digital age and the social implications of climate change.I currently lead the Child Well-Being Unit at the OECD Centre for Well-Being, Inclusion, Sustainability and Equal Opportunity (WISE), where I oversee the development of the OECD Child Well-Being Data Portal and manage a portfolio of research and policy initiatives aimed at supporting child- and family-related policy reforms.Before joining the OECD, I was a researcher at the French Institute for Demographic Studies (INED) and co-led the research unit on Economic Demography. I also worked as a project manager at the French Ministry of Social Affairs, where I was responsible for international comparative research on social protection systems.Selected Recent Achievements and PublicationsOECD Child Well-Being Data Portal and Dashboard – Led the development of this key international reference tool for monitoring and comparing child well-being outcomes across countries.How’s Life for Children in the Digital Age? – Explored the implications of digital technologies on children\'s well-being, highlighting both risks and policy opportunities.Parenting on a Budget: The Cost of Raising Children in Changing Family Configurations – Analyzed the financial pressures on families and the implications for social and family policy.Building Child-Friendly Neighbourhoods – Investigated the role of living environments in shaping child development and well-being.The Economic Costs of Childhood Socio-Economic Disadvantage – Quantified the long-term societal impacts of early disadvantage, providing evidence for preventive and investment-oriented policies.
