About Olivier Catherine

With over twenty years of experience in the plastics industry, I specialize in technical areas of in polymer processing, polymer rheology and process modeling. I am currently working as a Customer Applications and Development Engineer in Polyethylene Technology at ExxonMobil.I graduated in France from Cemef / Mines Paris Tech, in 2001 with a Mastere Specialise (equivalent to a Master of Science) in Materials Science. Since, I have continuously been interested in Materials Science and the relationship between materials structure, processing, and overall product properties.My career started with the Saint-Gobain Group with several positions. First, Saint-Gobain Seva in Chalon-sur-Saône - Burgundy Region, France, as a Project Engineer. For about three years, I worked on the development of vinyl window profile extrusion processes and design and manufacturing of highly specialized profile extrusion dies.I joined the Saint-Gobain R&D Center in Northborough, Massachusetts as a Research Engineer in 2004 and reached the position of Senior Research Engineer in 2008. This whole time, I worked for Polymer Processing Group but also interacted with the Rheology / Polymer Characterization group, as well as the Numerical Simulation group. I worked with the different business units on developing new processes and products, in the area of appliances and automotive (Igniters), building materials (Vinyl Siding), Energy (Solar Panels), micro-electronics (Chemical Mechanical Polishing Retaining Rings), to name a few.In February 2010, I decided to join Cloeren Incorporated as a Corporate Scientist as I am passionate about applied rheology and tooling design. Cloeren is one of the leaders for flat film extrusion tooling and has very high reputation in the area of complex coextrusion. Since, I have been working on die design, developing new concepts like the patented moebius-manifold™. I also implemented new rheological tools and flow simulation capabilities.I am an active member of the following professional associations: the Society of Rheology (SoR), the Polymer Processing Society (PPS), TAPPI, and the Society of Plastics Engineer (SPE) – I am currently a board member of the Extrusion Division for SPE.
