About Olivia Lopez
I\'m a program manager with over five years of experience in advancing equitable policy solutions that prepare coastal communities to withstand the worst effects of climate change. Having witnessed the outsized impacts of climate change on the coastal watersheds and vital water resources we rely on, I\'m dedicated to using my expertise rooted in science and policy to support and sustain community-driven flood and water quality solutions in urban areas.Having been raised in the Great Lakes region, resided and researched within the Chesapeake Bay watershed, advocated for policies that protect our ocean, and supported coastal communities across the Gulf Coast, I\'m unwavering my commitment to creating future-ready societies through innovative water conservation and management strategies. In my spare time, you can find me in wetlands searching for coastal birds, scuba diving, and enjoying all that Milwaukee\'s nature has to offer.
Experience
Community Engagement Manager, Water Justice
Deep South Center For Environmental Justice
May 2024 — Present
I lead implementation of DSCEJ’s Water Justice Program and Water Justice Training Institute, delivering a water advocacy curriculum, individual technical assistance, and resources that equip cohorts of community-based organizations with comprehensive skillsets needed to advance solutions to toxic flooding and water quality challenges. Working with experts, I ensure that learning and capacity-building opportunities are community-responsive, accessible, and relevant to emerging water and climate challenges. Curriculum has concentrated on using flood data, geospatial screening tools, and storytelling to bolster grassroots advocacy. At DSCEJ, I have also held the role of Manager, Government & External Affairs, through which I managed governmental and external connections for DSCEJ\'s EPA-funded technical assistance hub.
