I currently lead the Commercial Legal Team within a market-leading, highly regulated BioTech/Life Sciences organisation, managing an EMEA team of 11 junior and trainee lawyers, with direct line management of five team members. I work closely with the commercial organisation as a trusted legal adviser, supporting strategic business objectives and complex transactions while ensuring effective management of legal, regulatory and commercial risk.I serve as the primary escalation point for complex, high-risk matters while negotiating and structuring major commercial agreements across Europe, partnering with sales, finance, privacy, compliance and service teams in a fast-paced, highly regulated and cross-border environment.I have extensive experience negotiating frameworks, rental and loan agreements, NDAs, and advising on public tenders; I also lead on negotiating software licence agreements and DPAs across Europe, taking responsibility for mentoring junior lawyers and trainees, bringing them up to speed on drafting, negotiating and managing their own agreements,Over the past 12 months, I have taken on additional responsibility for leading negotiations for the company’s expanding bioinformatics product portfolio, negotiating software licence and data privacy agreements across EMEA. In doing so, I have established consistent contracting approaches, mitigated risk and upskilled the legal team in this increasingly critical area.I have also taken key roles in cross-functional strategic initiatives, including the implementation of a Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) system, leading the cross-functional project to design, build and establish the dedicated tender team, and supporting the business’s evolution towards workflow- and solution-based selling, advising on associated risks and drafting new contractual frameworks to enable this shift.
