Subject matter expert (with considerable private practice and in-house experience) on UK, US and international corporate/financial crime, defence and compliance matters including: anti-corruption; anti-money laundering; competition; data privacy; market abuse/insider dealing; trade and financial sanctions; counter terrorist financing; corporate governance and (internal and external) fraud. One of the first, and most innovative, anti-corruption experts in the UK/EU, initially drawing on US corporate compliance expertise and then applying it to EU subsidiaries of US corporates (developing and customising FCPA practice so as to ensure local appropriateness).Acting as a trusted adviser, both from a corporate defence (including by conducting internal investigations and by advising on how to deal with external regulators) and, also from a corporate compliance perspective (such as by drafting/tailoring, and then implementing new policies and procedures).Experience in all industry sectors including: engineering; IT; media; not for profit/charity; travel; pharmaceuticals; medical devices; financial services (wholesale and retail banking, private equity, hedge funds and insurance); defence; oil, gas, extractives & renewables; industrial and retail. Has dealt with, and is familiar with, issues arising from most countries across the globe.Experience includes: drafting, revising and implementing policies and procedures; ethics & compliance risk assessment, reporting (including designing reporting mechanisms) & mitigation; providing ad hoc advice to clients on matters such as gifts & entertainment and market conduct; drafting, developing and delivering face to face training on compliance matters for presentation to Legal/Compliance and the Business; conducting due diligence into M&A targets/JV partners and other counterparties; leading internal/external investigations and advising on the benefits (or otherwise) of self-reporting and how to deal with external authorities.
