ABOUT OLGA BARRIOS

Choreographer, teacher and dancer has collaborated with theater, musical and dance companies in Canada, USA and Colombia. She was born in Bogota- Colombia where she studied the Scenic Arts Program in dance at the Arts Academy of Bogota, and holds an MFA in dance at York University of Toronto. She is co-founder member and artistic director of Vanguardia Dance Projects (Canada). As dance teacher she has worked in Montreal, Hamilton, Kitchener, San Francisco, New Jersey and diverse cities in Colombia. As dancer she has joined the companies: Marc De Garmo and Dancers (NY-USA, L’Explose (Colombia, 2001, 2007), Blancoscuro (Colombia and Loco 7 (Colombia, Mt Space (Canada 2008). As independent choreographer she has developed several works and received important awards, grants and recognitions. As independent artist, Olga has participated in different festivals in Canada such as the Impact Theatre Festival, Night Shift Citadel Series, Guelph Contemporary Dance Festival, Hamilton Site Specific Festival, Ritmo y Color Festival at Harbourtfront, and Ffida between others events. Olga received the 2011 Hamilton Arts Award in Performance.Olga is guest professor at the Universidad del Atlántico since 2013 and Universidad del Magdalena in Colombia, and works in exchange projects between Canada and Colombia.
