ABOUT OLAMIDE OJO-FATI

Dr. Olamide Ojo-Fati is a research scientist with the Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Division of the California Department of Public Health. He served on the California Governor’s COVID-19 response testing task force, identifying gaps in test supplies, researching and promoting innovative solutions for COVID 19 testing. Prior to his current position, Dr. Ojo-Fati was a Principal investigator and lead scientist on federal and local funded clinical studies at the Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute, Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology, a subsidiary of the Hennepin Healthcare systems located in Minneapolis, MN. Dr. Ojo-Fati earned his medical degree (MD) from the Avalon University School of Medicine, Curacao, Netherland Antilles, his Masters in public health (MPH), with a focus in public health administration & policy from the University of Minnesota, and his Masters in Business Administration (MBA), with a concentration in healthcare administration from Davenport University, Michigan. Dr. Ojo-Fati was a post-doctoral researcher in the Cancer-Related Health Disparities Training Program under the support of a Ruth L. Kirschstein T32 National Research Service Award at the University of Minnesota. He is a past recipient of the Diversity Postdoctoral Research Supplement award based on the largest National Institute of Health (NIH) funded study focused on smoking cessation in homeless populations. He has conducted and published high-impact community–engaged research on the association between psychosocial factors (e.g, depression, anxiety, homeless duration) and smoking cessation. His prior work has also included development of interventions for smoking cessation that are tailored for racially diverse and socio-economically disadvantaged groups including the homeless. This development work has included gathering quantitative and qualitative data within a community based participatory research treatment development framework. In his free time, Olamide enjoys hanging out with friends and family, playing ping pong and chess.
