ABOUT OLADAYO APALOWO
With extensive experience in nutritional research, I have concentrated my research efforts on delving into the ramifications of micronutrient (selenium) deficiency and toxicity, particularly in the context of aging and metabolic diseases, such as Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) and Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). This is with a view to discovering key genes and proteins that exert significant influence over these age-related pathologies by employing SELENOH wild-type, heterozygous, and knockout mice as experimental models. In the laboratory, I wield a comprehensive skill set, encompassing genotyping, Western analysis, and gene expression studies. My proficiency extends to utilizing various scientific tools including electrophoresis (PAGE), PCR, RT-qPCR, Nanodrop, CHEMdoc imaging system, and ICP-MS. Additionally, I bear the responsibility of managing a C57BL/6 mice colony, vital for supporting Selenoh-/- strain lines, while ensuring strict adherence to laboratory protocols and maintaining chemical inventories.I am well-versed in diagnostic assays and possess a strong command of Computer-aided Drug Design (CADD) techniques. My skills also extend to molecular docking, visualization of ligand-target complexes, and analyzing and interpreting large genomic datasets. I am specifically adept in sequence alignment and multi-omics analysis, being able to integrate data from transcriptomics, metabolomics and proteomics, and conversant with various established and emerging databases for biomarker (or drug) discovery. These proficiencies empower me to make substantial contributions across a spectrum of projects, harmonizing hands-on laboratory work with computational techniques to facilitate comprehensive investigations within the domains of nutritional, biomedical, and pharmacological sciences. My adeptness extends to statistical analysis, with a command of tools like SAS and R software, and I take pride in my abilities related to manuscript composition, research paper reviews, and effective presentation of findings. I am committed to continuing my work in aging research, and I believe that my expertise and experience make me a valuable asset to any forward-looking team.
